PictureRetitle 3.0 - Renaming pictures with extreme power!

Imagine this: you've been on a trip of New York and you took pictures of all those famous visitor attractions. Wouldn't it be best for those pictures to have names that actually reflect the subject on it? Of course it would. Why? you ask. Because it exponentially increases the search power of your picture viewing tool (Vista Photo Gallery, Picasa etc.). Of course you can tag your pictures. But will you add several tags to every individual picture? Not likely, since that is way too much work, just like renaming pictures was. Do you share your pictures for instance through Flickr? If so, it is more than likely that those tags get lost in the uploading process. Do you realize that every word in a picture name is actually a visible tag that can not be lost? See how powerful a picture name is? Okay, let's go back to the picture of the New York trip. After you start PictureRetitle, you copy for instance (part) of the New York Wikipedia page into the PictureRetitle dictionary. When renaming, you will have access to all words and almost all phrases within the block of text you copied. That is really powerful and extremly easy. PictureRetitle 3.0 will be launched by the end of october 2008. But you can watch the demo now!

Where do the entries in the drop-down list come from?
There are two sources:

2) Titles of pictures from any folder you choose to store in the dictionary.

In other words, a filled dictionary with all kinds of re-usable entries is just two mouse clicks away. Every new title you supply is instantly added to the dictionary giving you full access to all its fragments while entering the next picture title.

Do realize the following:
Not only the full picture titles will show up in the dictionary drop-down list. The true power of PictureRetitle lies in the fact that ALL fragments of those picture titles are available to you!
For instance: the fragment St. Sulpice cathedral comes from the previous entered title: Tree in front of St. Sulpice cathedral.

The beginning of PictureRetitle

www.pictureretitle.com Maybe I am one of the few people who names his or her pictures. From the get go, I gave all pictures I took a descriptive name. I bought my fist digital camera in 1999, and in those days people were actually looking at you as soon as they would find out you had a digital camera; as you know that has changed! Over the years I took some 10,000 pictures and I am really glad that I always went through the trouble to name them. Why? Because it allows me for instance to retrieve all pictures of my son in an eyewink. Or of my wife or pictures I took of castles. Despite of the obvious benefit, people might say I am nuts to spend to much time renaming pictures. And yeah, they do have a point. At first I looked around on the net to see what was available to help me rename pictures. It turns out there is a lot, but none of those programs really suit my needs. It is just not good enough for me to be able to to convert DSC0001.jpg through DSC0232.jpg into 'Vacation in France 1.jpg' through 'Vacation in France 232.jpg'. Because those names don't tell me on which pictures my son apprears, my wife or the also mentioned castles. I kept thinking about it: having named so many pictures typing the same words over and over. There had to be a way to getting access to all the words I used previously, or better even, to complete parts of picture titles I created before. Slowly the thoughts turned into a plan and this spring I made the decision: I had to write the program myself.
