The beginning of PictureRetitle

Maybe I am one of the few people who names his or her pictures. From the get go, I gave all pictures I took a descriptive name. I bought my fist digital camera in 1999, and in those days people were actually looking at you as soon as they would find out you had a digital camera; as you know that has changed! Over the years I took some 10,000 pictures and I am really glad that I always went through the trouble to name them. Why? Because it allows me for instance to retrieve all pictures of my son in an eyewink. Or of my wife or pictures I took of castles. Despite of the obvious benefit, people might say I am nuts to spend to much time renaming pictures. And yeah, they do have a point. At first I looked around on the net to see what was available to help me rename pictures. It turns out there is a lot, but none of those programs really suit my needs. It is just not good enough for me to be able to to convert DSC0001.jpg through DSC0232.jpg into 'Vacation in France 1.jpg' through 'Vacation in France 232.jpg'. Because those names don't tell me on which pictures my son apprears, my wife or the also mentioned castles. I kept thinking about it: having named so many pictures typing the same words over and over. There had to be a way to getting access to all the words I used previously, or better even, to complete parts of picture titles I created before. Slowly the thoughts turned into a plan and this spring I made the decision: I had to write the program myself.
